About the Author Kevin Powers is the author of The Yellow Birds, which won the PEN/Hemingway Award, the Guardian First Book Award, and was a National Book Award Finalist. Qualifications:- B Sc. (Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics) Diplomas in Osteopathy, Massage, Manipulative Therapy, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Thought Field Therapy. Indian Massage:- 25 years in clinical practice, mainly on musculo-skeletal conditions, but was called upon to treat a very broad range of conditions, including “Nisha”, who came because she didn’t grow. Am I a leader in the field? As far as I know I am the only one in the field. No one else has extracted these practices of the IVC from the evidence, and few therapists approach treatment as I do. My approach is different. I look for the reasons why a patient keeps hold of muscular tensions. Often emotional 'baggage' is locked into the tissues as Trigger points that project pain into another part of the body. I describe how a combination of precise physical treatment with well placed verbal cuing, will reveal the locked in emotions. The natural inner flow of energy is unblocked and enhanced by a special massage technique. This clears out the emotion and relaxes the tight muscle. It can relieve them of chronic physical suffering. I treat the patient as a living being who needs compassion and a context in which they can let go of locked in injury. I show how the IVC ‘anticipated’ the modern scientific ideas of how stress creates real physical and physiological damage to the body. They also made a most significant contribution to philosophy and found practical ways to make a large civilization fair and just. I follow the chain of evidence from the IVC to the present day and demonstrate that we all owe a considerable debt to the IVC. I hope the historical part reveals some previously unreported connections we all have with the IVC, and its important influence on many religions and philosophies. The description of the 14 practices of the IVC that touch every corner of a normal life might be what some readers want. This third, stout volume recounts the dramatic climax of the quest for the Blood Diary, which holds the secret magic of the evil Black Heart. Three groups of do-gooding warriors are trying to track down the diary: Elena, the wit'ch, and her one-armed companion, Er'ril; Elena's Aunt Mycelle (a reformed shape-changer) and her motley crew; and the pirate Kast the Bloodrider and his beloved Sy-wen. Clemens tediously details each group's long journey, which concludes in a final confrontation on the island of A'loa Glen. There, the adventurers must confront the evil mage Shorkan (who happens to be Er'ril's brother). No tyro, Clemens does intelligent things with Elena and her brother, Joach, as they fight not only their enemies but also the dangers of their magical powers. He writes suggestively about shape-changing, and the final battle is so well constructed that it demands to be read at one sitting. But Clemens's decision to reveal only toward the end that the Blood Diary does not in fact hold the real key to the power of the Black Heart (thereby invalidating the purpose of the quest) produces terrific disappointment. (It does, however, suggest that he'll write at least one more novel in this series.) Although the scenario revolves around strong women and an abundantly detailed world, such a plot is hardly a novelty in contemporary fantasy fiction. Weakly executed, this book won't compel the attention of more discriminating readers.

Rafael Ramirez, Fellow in Strategy and Director of the Oxford Scenarios Programme, Said Business School, University of Oxford,Angela Wilkinson, Strategic Foresight Counsellor, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

Rafael Ramirez is Director of the Oxford Scenarios Programme and has pioneered work in organizational aesthetics; the interactive design of strategy; and how scenarios work. He was Visiting Professor of Scenarios and Corporate Strategy at Shell International 2000-2003 and Chairman of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council of Strategic Foresight. Rafael holds a PhD from the Wharton School, speaks Spanish, English and French fluently, has lived in five countries, and has worked on scenarios and futures work in some 30 countries since 1980.

Angela Wilkinson has contributed to over 100 futures studies and has directed several international multi-stakeholder scenario planning and foresight initiatives. She has over 30 years of analytical, managerial and consultancy experience, including board-level responsibility, honed in a wide range of organisations and international bodies, spanning the public and private sector. She is a member of the WEF's Global Strategic Foresight Community. Angela was Director of Futures Programmes, Smith School of Enterprise and Environment, and Director of Futures Research, James Martin Institute, University of Oxford. She spent nearly a decade in Shell's global scenario team. She has a Ph.D in Physics.
